Advice for owners in light of recent cases
Following recent reports of small
numbers of isolated Alabama rot cases in dogs across many parts of the
UK, owners have expressed concerns about what can be done to avoid this
rare, but potentially serious condition.
At present, the cause is still unknown, but most cases are seen in
winter and spring (though the disease can be seen any time of year).
Affected dogs will show unexplained skin ulceration on the legs,
underparts of the body and/or muzzle or tongue. A variety of other signs
of illness can also be seen.
There is no specific test and no known cure, but supportive treatment
can help affected patients. Although there are no known methods of
